Gold of the Desert Kings™

Gold of the Desert Kings™ addresses the issue of effort versus results achieved.

Team Exercise

This is a fun, fast paced competitive team exercise. Using a virtual desert journey as the setting, participants work in competing teams of four or five team members. They face circumstances with limited time and resources and must work with their team to achieve as much gold as possible by the end of the experience.

The challenges experienced in Gold of the Desert Kings™ are similar to those experienced in a hectic work schedule. Participants contend with deadlines, environmental conditions, decision making, risk management a perceived lack of resources, others' point of view and the pressure to accomplish objectives.

Gold of the Desert Kings

At the end of the experience we compare the results achieved by each team and the time it took to achieve those results, linking the analogies from the activity back to the real work place. The debriefing will be tailored to the objectives you wish to achieve.

Use Gold of the Desert Kings™ to:

  • Emphasise the impact lack of planning and time management has on results
  • Highlight the need for obtaining as much information as possible
  • Stress the importance of risk management, anticipating and adapting to changing circumstances
  • Increase the focus on outcomes
  • Prove the difference (in results) between teams who work to maximise results, versus those who work to "survive"
Outcomes Exercise

Gold of the Desert Kings™ - "Apply It!™" Session

This 2 hour post program session takes the learning and revelations and forces them down to the day to day level. Participants use a practical model for applying the learning. Using a large work mat that participants personalize, the Gold of the Desert Kings Apply It! session teaches participants a three step process that can be applied at the start of every new project at work and reflected upon as each project progresses. Participants identify the characteristics of a "9 Bars of Gold" outcome, and learn to develop and execute on goals that reflect this "What's Possible?" mindset.

Apply it

By the end of the session, participants will have had ample practice applying the model and a clear conviction for using it on the fly in day to day situations.

Learning Retention Options: "Work it!™" Field Guide

Work it!™ is a self-study participant field guide containing assessments, case studies, helpful tips and useful exercises to help participants support, apply and reinforce the specific learning points from their training program.

Each field guide is consistent with the theme of the program and features short, engaging chapters to make it user-friendly. The field guide is a natural follow-up for all participants and provides ongoing reinforcement of key program principles for months to follow. It can be solely self-administered or form part of a team retention strategy, supported by the T&D team or line manager through regular discussion and review.
